I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and a Certified First Responder Counselor (CFRC). I have an undergraduate degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice, and a Master’s of Science in Mental Health Counseling. I have worked in the field of mental health for the past 16 years. I have provided forensic and advocacy services, crisis intervention and trauma focused therapy services to children, adolescents and adults. I truly believe in the significance of the therapeutic alliance, meaning the client counselor relationship is supportive and collaborative with the common goal of healthy change and personal growth. You will find me to be direct, genuine, understanding and compassionate. I am light hearted and often use my sense of humor, when appropriate, during the therapeutic process.
I am extremely passionate about providing emotional support to the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to help and save others. I have partnered with law enforcement, special prosecutors, medical professionals, and child protection investigators in over 3000 cases conducting specialized forensic interviews with children, adolescents and adults with cognitive or other developmental disabilities who have survived or witnessed violent crime. This role has allowed me to gain insight into the culture and work of first responders. I know firsthand how burnout, compassion fatigue and/or vicarious trauma can impact one's life.
I believe in approaching clients holistically, meaning overall health depends on developing a healthy balance of physical, emotional, psychological, social, intellectual and spiritual needs. I use an integrative therapy model that combines different evidence-based tools to fit the needs of the individual client.
I am trained in Attachment and Somatic Focused Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (SAFE-EMDR) which is a highly effective, evidence based treatment to treat trauma in addition to depression and anxiety. I am also trained in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which has the primary goal to change patterns of thinking and behavior contributing to life struggles. I am well-versed in lifespan development, from infancy to late adulthood, and how early attachment and other experiences can impact mental health throughout the different stages of life.
I will help you overcome challenges through discovery, empowerment and growth in order to reach your full potential.
